gifts for the caretakers and guiding lights in our life
moms, mother-in-laws, grandmothers, sisters, sister-in-laws, cousins, best friends
I talk about my mom alot. and for good reason, she is truly my guiding light. I tell my husband all the time that my only goal as a mom is to raise my kids the way her and my dad raised my three brothers and I.
But that being said, as someone who has lost a parent (my dad passed away 14 years ago), i'm deeply aware of how difficult days like mother’s day and father’s day can be for many. for those who have lost parents, for those who want to become parents, and for those who have complicated relationships.
so mother’s day for the troupe is about celebrating the guiding lights in our life. the women who take care of us. not just because I want to be sensitive to those who have a hard time on this day, but because that’s what mothers are. it’s a role. and for some, it might be a biological mom. it might be celebrating you as a mom. for some, it’s a sister-in-law. a grandmother. a cousin.
it’s a presence.
for me, my best friends are also this ‘presence’ for me. they drop off 20 too many pedialytes when one of my kids are sick. offer to bring my kids home from school. insist on my husband and kids joining their already chaotic dinner plans when i am out of town. my sister in laws too!! i have the best sister in laws in the world. and my mother in law!!!! i could go on and on about all the amazing incredible women in my life.
it’s the women in our lives who are firmly in our corner. who tell us the truth when we need to hear it, and remind us of our strength when we’ve forgotten.
and we all need to be celebrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so, beyond asking for a sleep in (which, in case you’re wondering, I’m not getting. my husband is conveniently running a half marathon on mother’s day and leaving the house at 7am. so much fun), here are some fun gift ideas. and let me say this: have zero shame in putting in a request. truly nothing worse than giving them the benefit of the doubt... and being disappointed. or skip the middleman and just treat yourself, that’s my preference.

a few other ideas
a troupe gift card (of course)
a magazine or book on a topic they love. for example, if she loves interiors and she’s sentimental, then this Rose Tarlow book which showcases three of her family houses in Stone Canyon and Santa Barbara, California, and Provence, France could be a great pick! the more personal and unexpected the find, the more meaningful it feels. It’s all about the effort and thought on this one.
and for my jewish troupers, in honour of israel’s birthday this week…this gorgeous mini chai charm
hope this helps!
celebrate yourself. celebrate your friends. LET US!!!
have a great thursday everyone. thank you times a million for being a subscriber and being part of the troupe.

I so rarely see chai charms with a design I like, even though I would love to wear one. And this one is a great find!
This is such a fantastic selection... the trouble is, if I buy it for my mother, I'll be envious and end up buying it twice – once for her and once for myself!
